Keynote: Policy Imperatives and Perinatal Outcome

    On June 2, 2011, Dr. Berwick of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) convened a symposium of national health care leaders:  Perinatal Outcomes Improvement:  Where Are We?  Where Can we Go?  CMS aims to be a force for improving care outcomes and patient experience in health care.  The Affordable Care Act provides CMS with a variety of opportunities and tools to improve perinatal outcomes, including the new Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation (CMI).  CMS recognizes that most of the expertise to improve perinatal outcomes exists outside of CMS and sees their role as translating known best practices into action and are seeking ideas with the greatest potential for success.  It is imperative that CPMs understand the goals of the agency that insures almost half of the childbearing population in the U.S.
