Lawlor, Mary

  • Mary Lawlor, CPM, LM, MA is a Certified Professional Midwife in private homebirth practice since 1981 in southern Vermont and New Hampshire, and is the owner of the Monadnock Birth Center in Swanzey, NH.  She also holds a Masters Degree in Counseling.  Mary was active in successful legislative efforts to license midwives in both Vermont and New Hampshire, and serves as a Midwife Advisor to the Office of Professional Regulation in Vermont, helping to oversee the practice of midwifery in the state.  She is a founding board member of the National Association of Certified Professional Midwives (NACPM), and has served as President of the board since 2004.  In addition to her role as President, Mary also serves as Policy Analyst for NACPM and the Midwives and Mothers in Action (MAMA) Campaign, a coalition partnership of six national midwifery-related organizations with the goal of securing Federal recognition for Certified Professional Midwives in the U.S. Congress.  Under Mary’s leadership, NACPM and the MAMA Campaign have been at work on Capitol Hill to improve the quality of maternity care and to increase access to the full range of maternity care options and birth settings for women across the country.
